LONDON ? A former Egyptian finance minister sought on corruption charges has been able to escape an angry crowd at the London School of Economics with the help of the school's security team.
The LSE says Youssef Boutros Ghali attended a public lecture Monday night and was helped out a side door after his presence prompted a hostile response.
The school said in a statement Tuesday it was acting out of a concern for public safety. It says security personnel notified London police about Boutros Ghali's presence.
The 59-year-old Boutros Ghali lives openly in London but is being sought by Egyptian authorities on criminal fraud charges. He served under former President Hosni Mubarak, whose regime was toppled last year.
