Cyber-shot W510's popularity is basically on it's 4x optical zoom. It starts at a 26mm (wide angle) to 104mm (telephoto end). It has a built-in flash unit that provides bright illumination which is quick enough to recharge between shots. It also has nine scene modes. They include High Sensitivity, Soft Snap, Landscape, Portrait, Pets, Waterside and Snow.
In sunny and well-lit situations, TW510 gives best pictures. It is doing well at macro shots too. One disadvantage is that Blue being pumped to its maximum the images look saturated. If you are a snap shooter who wants to capture party photos for web display like Facebook, you will not have problems. The images look very decent at reduced resolution.
For beginners W510 provides features like face and smile detection. There are more advanced options like exposure compensation, manual ISO selection and metering and focus modes. The other selling point of this camera is its light weight. With Sony lithium-Ion battery W510 is slim and light. Probably that is why it is known as a holiday camera.
